Popular Toys for Every Pet

Pets come in all shapes and sizes. From the giant expanse that is a Great Dane to the little Betta fish confined to its tiny bowl, all furry, scaly, and feathery friends with a tail need entertainment. Keeping a pet occupied and mentally engaged is an excellent way of making sure they feel loved. Here are some popular toys for each species of pets.

1. Cats
Cat toys are essential for entertainment and help the feline maintain its claws, encourage chewing, and boost oral health. Activity boards are the most popular among felines due to their lasting engagement quality. Toys that deliver treats are good to keep food-motivated cats active. Organic and chemical-free catnip-filled toys are also quite popular. Cat trees help ensure the cat is active and engaged and has a place to climb, stretch, and scratch. Design and size considerations depend on the size of the cat and the space available at home.

2. Dogs
The most popular among dog toys are the squeaky ones. Puppies and adults alike are attracted by the exciting sounds and textures of such toys. Balls and tug toys are ideal for pets and pet owners who enjoy a little physical play. Playing fetch or tug of war are great bonding exercises. Chew toys are essentials during the teething months to keep young pets from chewing footwear or furniture. There are, of course, puzzle toys, balls, boxes, and activity boards that help to engage dogs mentally and contain treats as a reward for their efforts.

3. Birds
Whether you have love birds, parrots, or finches, bird toys are essential to keep your feathered friends happy and stimulated. Bored birds become a nuisance quite quickly. Their toys are made out of wood, animal hide, sisal rope, metal, and plastic. Large beads, nuts, bells, and treats are all used to make the toys more attractive and enticing. Colors are usually varied and often include bright ones like red, orange, and yellow. Popular bird toys are bird bungee cords, chew toys, perch platforms, and playpens.

4. Hamsters
These playful rodents need a lot of activity. While a simple exercise wheel or ball is the most common and obvious choice, selecting more complex toys can go a long way in engaging them challengingly. Hamsters love chewing and burrowing. Choose wooden or stick toys to keep their oral health up. Choosing quiet toys is best as these rodents are nocturnal. Like cats and dogs, toys with treats hidden inside them are extra exciting and provide additional incentives to the animals. Tunnels, fruit-flavored chew toys, suspension bridges, hammocks, and running disks are popular toy choices for hamsters.

5. Betta fish
While most do not think of toys when thinking of the Betta fish, there are many toys aquarium keepers can invest in. Betta fish like hiding and lazing around, so aquatic plants, both natural and artificial, are an excellent addition to their environment. Artificial hammocks can also be attached to the walls of a tank. Floating or sinking logs can also be used to help the fish relax. Dogs are not the only pets that enjoy playing with moss balls and ping pong balls. Fish get excited with them too.
