5 Lipstick Applying Tricks by Professionals

Even when you have found the perfect liquid lipstick or the long-wear lipstick in the right shade, applying it can seem fairly challenging. At times, one side may remain thinner than the other, leaving your lips lopsided, while other times, you may end up over-lining your lips too much, making them seem unnatural. However, now you can apply lipstick like a pro.

Follow these six lipstick applying tricks by professionals, and get ready to perfect the art.

1. Prep your lips
The first step towards applying lipstick right is prepping your lips. You do not want to walk around with chapped and dry lips. So, exfoliate the lips with a damp, soft toothbrush. Follow it with a moisturizing, nourishing, and hydrating lip balm. This will help soften your lips and leave them looking healthy and supple. Next, apply a lip primer. This is necessary to ensure that the color you use on the lips stays longer and does not bleed.

2. Color correct the lips
It may be pretty hard for the colors to come through on dark-hued lips. But, you can apply a lighter-hued foundation, which will help you mute the actual shade of your lips. After the color is muted, you can pick any lip shade and achieve the true color of the shade.

3. Apply a lip liner
In addition to defining a perfect lip shade, the lip liner also ensures that your lipstick does not bleed or feather. Stand close in front of the mirror, and observe your lips. You will find that lips naturally have a white contour. You have to use this as your guide when you apply the lip liner on top. Herein, the direction where you start or move forward is not vital. However, keep it as precise and accurate as possible. Also, bear in mind; the lip liner must be in the same shade as the lipstick. At times, it may be hard for you to find a lip shade that matches apricot, peach, or coral tones, but an eyebrow pencil in the warm, light brown shade will also do the trick. To achieve the best results, ensure that the lip liner is properly sharpened.

4. Powder the lip liner
To ensure that the liner lasts longer, set your liner with a light dusting powder. You can take any loose transparent powder and apply only a little on your lips with a cotton pad.

5. Apply the lipstick
Apply the lipstick and ensure that the lipstick covers the lip liner as well. Use a lip brush for accuracy. This will provide a more precise application and allow the lipstick to stay longer. After applying the first coat, blot it with a tissue, and then move on to the second coat, and blot again. Layering helps improve lasting power.
